2011 Reserve Pinot Noir 1.5L

Winemaking Notes

Soft and rich, with layers of red cherry, raspberry, cola, caramel, and a hint of Asian spice, this impressively silky, deeply colored and full-bodied wine is aged in 100% French oak, which adds an elegant toasty vanilla character. Enjoy this voluptuous Pinot Noir now and over the next three to five years.

Food pairings

The Russian River Valley is well established as one of the finest Pinot Noir growing regions in the world and we have been growing, and making Pinot Noir here for over forty years. Our Reserve is the winemakersí artisanal blend of individual wines made from time tested, meticulously farmed sections of some of the very best vineyards in Russian River Valley. Each lot is vinified separately, aged in our finest barrels, and then selected by the winemaking team for complexity, concentration, and grace. It is literally a matter of taste.

The Vineyards

The 2011 vintage started off cool and damp, with little to no frost. With almost two inches of rain in the month of June, late rains continued until July. The end of the rainy season led to a cool weather pattern for most of the summer, with average high temperatures around 80 degrees for both July and August. The heat finally returned in September, with one six day stretch of temperatures in the 90s, exactly what the vintage needed. We harvested the last of our Reserve Pinot Noir on October 1st under ideal conditions. Only 424 cases were produced.

Cellar & Fermentation:

We craft our Reserve Pinot Noir in our small lot winemaking facility, the Artisan Cellar. Under the direction of consulting winemaker David Ramey, we employ cutting edge techniques such as cluster pre-sorting, berry sorting, cold soaking, thermal maceration, and a small percentage of whole clusters. With small tanks and equipment sized for the most discriminating vineyard selection process, our facility is truly state of the art, and represents the Klein family commitment towards producing the finest wines possible.
