Rod Strong was among the first modern wine pioneers with a vision to plant Pinot Noir in the Russian River Valley. In 1968, he planted our heritage River East Vineyard in the alluvial clay-loam soils adjacent to the winery in Healdsburg. Today the Russian River Valley is well established as one of the premier Pinot Noir growing regions in the world.
2019 was reminiscent of the great 2012 vintage with one exception - prolonged hang time. Despite a late start, the crop continued to grow with cool weather allowing the grapes to achieve perfect maturity for an intentional Rosé of Pinot Noir. Picked early at 19.5 to 20 degrees brix, this wine style is bright with vibrant flavors. This vintage will be remembered for exceptional quality and abundance. We harvested the fruit in the heart of the Russian River Valley between August and September.
