2018 Blue Wing Petaluma Gap Pinot Noir
The winter rainy season was much drier than normal, however 2018 will be remembered for its cool summer temperatures and lack of heat spikes. Daily highs in Sonoma County in July and August peaked around 85F, but the weather cooled and mist hung in the air, delaying the decision to pick several weeks past when we started picking the previous vintage. Large yields also meant longer hang time and complex flavors, as we waited for the sugars to accumulate in the berries. We picked our vineyard in the Petaluma Gap on September 26.
Our Blue Wing Vineyard Pinot Noir has brilliant aromas of strawberry and a slight smokiness. On the palate, flavors of bright red fruits and a hint of vanilla are framed by fine-grained tannins, coastal minerality and a bright acidity that culminate on the lengthy finish. The wine was barrel aged in French oak, creating elegant spice characteristics and a silky, smooth texture. Enjoy this wine with roasted strawberry and balsamic bruschetta or a classic barbecued pulled pork
2017 Russian River Pinot Noir
The 2017 vintage will not be soon forgotten. The all-time precipitation record was set by mid-April as rain swept like waves over the North Coast, filling all the lakes,
ponds and reservoirs. As the rain clouds subsided and the sun appeared, the vineyards in the Russian River Valley endured six different heat waves at or above 110F on Labor Day. Our Pinot Noir was harvested August 23 through September 16.
Our 2017 Estate Russian River Valley Pinot Noir has lovely aromas of red fruit, floral and earth. With a soft and silky texture, on the palate dark cherry, cranberry, and baking spice characteristics shine through with balance, acidity and a nice lingering finish. This medium bodied wine was aged for 11 months in small French oak barrels, which added a hint of toasty vanilla and spice complexity. Enjoy this Pinot Noir now with charcuterie, wild
mushroom risotto, grilled pork tenderloin or cellar it for enjoyment for the next 2 to 4 years.
2017 Reserve Pinot Noir
The 2017 vintage will not be soon forgotten. The all-time precipitation record was set by mid-April as rain swept like waves over the North Coast, filling all the lakes, ponds and reservoirs. As the rain clouds subsided and the sun appeared, the vineyards in the Russian River Valley endured six different heat waves at or above 100F, including a memorable 110F on Labor Day. We harvested the fruit on September 1st and 5th to make this beautiful Reserve Pinot Noir.
The 2017 Reserve Pinot Noir has wonderful aromas of candied cherry, toasty oak and baking spices with a rich body showcasing notes of vanilla and black cherry. The finish is rich and smooth with light tannins. Enjoy this wine now with sweet and spicy Moroccan roasted carrots, truffle risotto or cellar for enjoyment over the next few years.
