2018 Red Blend
Description
Winemaking Notes
Varietal composition: 59% Merlot, 29% Cabernet Franc,12% Cabernet Sauvignon
Through further study of the Cooley Ranch, distinct blocks like Sky High, Thompson and Prune Orchard caught the eye of winemaker Justin Seidenfeld and winegrower Ryan Decker. These blocks inspired a sister wine to 600L which we have named 600R, paying homage to the legendary Merlot and Cabernet Franc blends from the Right Bank region of Bordeaux.
600R strikes an ethereal note as it dances across the palate. Cascading flavors of red plum, blackberry, dark chocolate and the signature minerality of the Cooley Ranch are all wrapped in a velvety finish lasting for minutes.
History
The Vineyards
The majestic and untamed expanse of the Cooley Ranch continues to inspire as the iron-rich metamorphic soils yield a character distinct from any other hillside plantings in California. As we reflect back upon our first plantings of Bordeaux-inspired varietals ten years ago on the highest peaks of Cooley Ranch, our perspective grows into a deeper understanding of the potential that we have tapped into. In 2015, our 600L Cabernet Sauvignon, crafted in miniscule quantities, was born out of our favorite individual rows from the very best block of the over 20,000-acre ranch. Its powerful fruit expression, minerality and round tannins were indeed an unexpected windfall.
