The 2016 Malbec is very rich and deeply colored, with intense aromas and flavors of black plum, blackberry, black-tea leaf, crushed violets and baking spices. This bold wine consists of soft tannins which lead to a nice finish with wonderful acidity. Enjoy it over the next three to six years.
Pair this delicious rich wine with braised short ribs or a mushroom burger smothered with blue cheese and bacon.
Our wines are made from time tested, meticulously farmed sections of some of the very best vineyards in Sonoma County. Select areas within each vineyard are hand harvested, fermented separately and aged in the finest French oak barrels. After about six months, each lot is tasted and graded and only the lots that display depth, richness, intensity, and age worthiness are considered for bottling. The wine is then blended, and returned to barrels to age for an additional 14 to 20 months, depending on the vintage, to facilitate flavor integration before bottling.
El Niño brought some good rain the winter of 2015, but February was dry. It warmed up and energized the vines to start budbreak, though a bit later than the previous few years. Showers soaked Alexander Valley in the middle of March and filled the ground with much needed water. Beautiful warm summer days led to verasion and sugar cumulation in the berries. Mid-August to September was filled with overcastdays and cooler weather, which prolonged our starting pick date. The Farrow Vineyard and Rockaway Vineyard Malbecs were hand picked on the same day, September 27, 2016.
