2018 Malbec
Description
Winemaking Notes
Our 2018 Malbec is very rich and deeply colored, with intense aromas and flavors of black plum, blackberry, black-tea leaf, crushed violets and baking spices. This bold wine consists of soft tannins which lead to a nice finish with wonderful acidity. Pair this delicious rich wine with braised short ribs or a blue cheese and honey drizzled shortbread. Enjoy it over the next three to six years.
History
Our wines are made from time tested, meticulously farmed sections of some of the very best vineyards in Sonoma County. Select areas within each vineyard are hand harvested, fermented separately and aged in the finest French oak barrels. After about six months, each lot is tasted and graded and only the lots that display depth, richness, intensity, and age worthiness are considered for bottling. The wine is then blended, and returned to barrels to age for an additional 14 to 20 months, depending on the vintage, to facilitate flavor integration before bottling.
The Vineyards
The 2018 growing season was dry throughout the spring with well below normal
precipitation. Cooler weather dominated this vintage with only two short, relatively mild heat spikes through the entire growing season. Summer days were very pleasant in Sonoma County with highs in the 70s and 80s and with August having even warmer temperatures. With everything in balance, we harvested October 1 - 16.
