2014 Cooley Ranch Syrah

Winemaking Notes

Rich, lush and medium bodied, the 2014 Syrah displays intense and exotic aromas and flavors of blackberry, plum, orange peel and jasmine. This wine is structured and balanced with smooth integrated tannins and a lingering fi nish of toasty baking spices.

Food pairings

Enjoy this wine with soft cheeses, grilled lamb, or roasted pork.

Syrah, the noble grape of France’s Rhone valley, has shown that it is particularly well suited to the soils and climate of Northern Sonoma at our Cooley Ranch, a warm region in the far northern reaches of Sonoma County. We crafted this Syrah in our cellar where we employ techniques such as cluster pre-sorting, berry sorting, cold soaking and a free-run juice utilization in a truly state of the art facility, with small tanks sized for the most discriminating vineyard selection process. Using a traditional Northern Rhone winemaking technique, we co-ferment the Syrah with Viognier, which adds a floral lift to the wine.

The Vineyards

A mild, dry winter encouraged early bud break in Sonoma County in 2014. The growing season was very warm overall, but tempered by overcast days in late July and late August and a heavy drizzle in early September, which slowed ripening through extended hang time on the vines. We picked the Syrah for this wine September 23.
