2016 Reserve Pinot Noir


Winemaking Notes

The 2016 Reserve Pinot Noir has wonderful aromas of candied cherry, toasty oak and baking spices with a rich body showcasing notes of vanilla and black cherry. The finish is rich and smooth with light tannins.

Food pairings

Enjoy this wine now with sweet and spicy Moroccan roasted carrots, truffle risotto or cellar for enjoyment over the next few years.


We craft our Reserve Pinot Noir in our small lot winemaking facility, the Artisan Cellar. Winemaker Greg Morthole employs cutting edge techniques such as cluster pre-sorting, berry sorting, cold soaking, and thermal maceration. This wine is aged sur lie, with monthly bâtonnage which imparts an elegant fullness and creamy texture on the palate. With small tanks and equipment sized for the most discriminating vineyard selection process, our facility is truly state of the art, and represents the Klein family commitment towards producing the finest wines possible.

The Vineyards

El Niño brought sufficient rain in the winter of 2015 followed by a dry February. Temperatures quickly climbed, energizing the vines to begin budbreak, albeit a bit earlier than previous years. Showers soaked the Russian River Valley in mid-March and filled the ground with much needed water. Beautifully warm summer days led to veraison and sugar accumulation in the berries. Mid-August to September was filled with unseasonably overcast days and cooler weather which prolonged our starting pick date. Most of the grapes were hand-picked on September 1, with the last parcel hand-picked on September 8.
