We craft our Reserve Pinot Noir in our small lot winemaking facility, the Artisan Cellar. Winemaker Greg Morthole employs cutting edge techniques such as cluster pre-sorting, berry sorting, cold soaking, and thermal maceration. This wine is aged sur lie, with monthly bâtonnage which imparts an elegant fullness and creamy texture on the palate. With small tanks and equipment sized for the most discriminating vineyard selection process, our facility is truly state of the art, and represents the Klein family commitment towards producing the finest wines possible.
The 2017 vintage will not be soon forgotten. The all-time precipitation record was set by mid-April as rain swept like waves over the North Coast, filling all the lakes, ponds and reservoirs. As the rain clouds subsided and the sun appeared, the vineyards in the Russian River Valley endured six different heat waves at or above 100F, including a memorable 110F on Labor Day. We harvested the fruit on September 1st and 5th to make this beautiful Reserve Pinot Noir.
