Winemaking Notes
Ripe cherry and plum aromas open to a complex mix of rhubarb, forest floor, creamy oak and exotic dark floral tones. The fruit flavors continue a smooth, full bodied palate with forest floor, vinous and dark cherry flavors, finishing with supple volume and balance acidity. Enjoy this wine now with sweet and spicy Moroccan roasted carrots, truffle risotto or cellar for enjoyment over the next few years.
History
Our Reserve wines are the result of a careful blend of individual lots from meticulously farmed sections of some of the very best vineyards in Sonoma County. Created in our small lot Artisan Cellar, Winemaker Justin Seidenfeld employs techniques such as cluster pre-sorting and extended maceration. With small tanks and equipment sized for the most discriminating vineyard selection process, our cellar is state-of-the-art and represents the Klein family commitment to producing the finest wines possible.
The Vineyards
The 2021 vintage was mild and dry. Seasonable weather made for pleasant
spring and summer days. Due to the ideal ripening conditions, we predicted an early harvest. But Mother Nature had other plans and as we checked berry sugars in the late summer the blocks seemed to need a little more time to ripen than predicted. As the vines developed full flavor, we harvested each block separately in the early morning hours from September 1st through the 11th.
