2020 Chardonnay
Description
Winemaking Notes
Our Petaluma Gap Chardonnay has aromas of pineapple, golden apple and hay. On the palate this wine is bursting with honeycrisp apple, fresh minerality and a creamy mouth feel, ending with a smooth, butterscotch finish. The extremely low yielding vineyard led to a wonderful concentration of flavor in the finished wine. We regularly stirred the lees during the 14 months of aging to add richness and texture. Enjoy this with an Asian salad, spicy seafood pasta or lemon garlic chicken.
History
Since 1959, our passion has been to craft best in class wines in our sustainable winery to share with friends and family. Our family-owned winery is committed to quality wines and to protecting our resources for the future. We are solar powered, certified sustainable, practice Fish Friendly Farming and we were the first winery in Sonoma County to offset our carbon footprint. With an eye on the future, innovation in the cellar and the vineyards is at the heart of all that we do.
The Vineyards
2020 saw substantial winter rain in Sonoma County though drier weather soon took over, the season ending up about 60% of average precipitation. Beautiful summer days with moderate temperatures ended with a prolonged heatwave in mid-August, driving sugars up and leading to an early harvest. With everything in balance, we harvested on September 12.
