Winemaking Notes

Full bodied and richly textured, this vintage displays intense aromas and flavors of black currant, roasted herbs, licorice and cocoa, with a smooth, lingering finish. If you have access to a cool dark place, lay some bottles of this 2011 Reserve down for at least three to six years and your patience will be rewarded.

Food pairings


Our 2011 Reserve Cabernet was created in our small lot artisan cellar. Under the direction of consulting winemaker David Ramey, we employ techniques such as cluster pre-sorting, berry sorting, and extended maceration. With small tanks and equipment sized for the most discriminating vineyard selection process, our cellar is state of the art and represents the Klein family commitment towards producing the finest wines possible.

The Vineyards

2011 started off cool and damp, but with little to no frost. Late rains continued until July, with almost 2 inches of rain in the month of June. The end of the rainy season led to a cool weather pattern for most of the summer, with average high temperatures only around 80 degrees for both July and August. The heat finally returned in September, with one six day stretch of temperatures in the 90s, exactly what the vintage needed. We harvested the Cabernet for this year's blend from the northern part of the Alexander Valley, starting on October 18th and finishing up on October 25th.
