The 2016 Reserve Chardonnay has wonderful aromas of baked apple, pineapple and baking spices. On the palate the creamy lemon meringue nutmeg notes are well balanced by crisp acidity and a rich mouthfeel.

Our 2016 Reserve Chardonnay was made in our small lot Artisan Cellar. Winemaker Greg Morthole employs techniques such as whole cluster pressing, native yeast barrel fermentations and native malolactic fermentations, using barrels and equipment sized for the most discriminating vineyard selection process. Our cellar is state of the art and represents the Klein family's commitment to producing the finest wines possible.
El Niño brought some good rain the winter of 2015, but February was pretty dry. Then it warmed up and energized the vines to start budbreak, though a bit later than the previous few years. Showers soaked the Russian River Valley in the middle of March and filled the ground with much needed water. Beautiful warm summer days led to verasion and sugar accumulation in the berries. Mid-August to September was filled with overcast days and cooler weather, which prolonged our starting pick date. The old Wente clone Chardonnay was hand picked in the cool morning hours of September 14, from our Shiloh Vineyard, which was planted in 1977.
