The 2017 Reserve Chardonnay has wonderful aromas of vanilla, creme brulee and golden apple. On the palate, this wine is round and full with notes of butterscotch and a hint of lemon that ends in a rich and lingering finish with well-balanced acidity.
Enjoy this Chardonnay with mushroom and sweet pea risotto, fresh lobster rolls or gnocchi tossed with brown butter and crisped sage.
Our Reserve Chardonnay is created in our small lot winemaking facility, the Artisan Cellar. Winemaker Greg Morthole employs cutting edge techniques such as whole cluster pressing, "double dry" barrel fermentation, and unfiltered bottling. This wine is aged sur lie, with bi-weekly bâtonnage which imparts an elegant fullness and creamy texture on the palate. With small tanks and equipment sized for the most discriminating vineyard selection process, our facility is truly state of the art, and represents the Klein family commitment towards producing the finest wines possible.
Early winter showers with a fair amount of rainfall were followed by a warm, dry spring in 2017. Alternating overcast days and heat waves continued throughout the spring and summer, with a warm July and August. Cool mornings in mid to late August helped to preserve acidity while warm daytime temperatures led to perfectly ripe fruit with harvest starting September 1 and ending September 30.
