Winemaking Notes
The 2016 vintage of 2040 is lush and elegant consisting of high-elevation, mountain fruit with aromas of violet, blueberry and black cherry. The palate is rich with sweet oak and a hint of spice with a velvety smooth, lingering finish and well-integrated tannins. Pairs with a grilled filet mignon, braised beef short ribs and sharp cheeses. Enjoy this wine now or cellar for enjoyment for years to come.
Vineyard Notes
This wine comprises Cabernet Sauvignon grapes from the highest block of the wild and expansive Cooley Ranch in the far western reaches of Sonoma County. The block named Sky High sits 2,040 feet above sea level, towering above all neighboring peaks.
Production Notes
Early winter showers with a fair amount of rainfall were followed by a warm, dry spring in 2016. Alternating overcast days and heat waves continued through spring and summer, with a warm July and August. Cool mornings in mid to late August helped to preserve acidity while warm daytime temperatures led to perfectly ripe fruit with harvest taking place from September 27 – October 1.
