Our 2018 Clone 115 Piont Noir opens with both fresh and dried cherry aromas and a complex mix of cocoa powder and loamy earth. Dried cherry flavors combine with leather, plum and a slight note of tobacco as the acidity and tannins create pleasing structure which lasts through the long finish. Enjoy this wine with a roasted cherry glazed lamb shank or a piece of quality dark chocolate.
Our Clone 115 Pinot Noir comes from a small, 20 year old parcel growing at our Jane’s Vineyard in a neighborhood called the Santa Rosa Plains in the heart of the Russian River Valley. The vine rows are intentionally oriented north and south so the clusters receive excellent exposure on both sides. Warm days allow the fruit to ripen while the cool nights allow the vines to retain acidity, making the Russian River Valley a world class winegrowing region.
The temperature during the 2018 growing season was very mild with uncharacteristically low precipitation at only 23 inches of rain. Very few days exceeded 90°F which resulted in a prolonged hang time to allow the flavors and sugars to properly develop. Harvest began a week later than the much warmer 2017 vintage with cool and overcast mornings, with the fruit being hand picked in the early morning of September 15.
