Winemaking Notes
Our 2019 Clone 114 Pinot Noir has notes of delicious brambly dark berry fruit compote, ripe plum, oak, baking spice, cigar box and a touch of clove. The rich, supple mouthfeel is smooth and oily, balanced with plum and spicy oak flavors and the tannins are slightly chewy on the finish, worthy of aging a few years.
Vineyard Notes
Our Clone 114 Pinot Noir comes from our Jane’s Vineyard in a neighborhood called the Santa Rosa Plains in the heart of the Russian River Valley. The vine rows are intentionally oriented north and south so the clusters receive excellent exposure on both sides. Warm days allow the fruit to ripen while the cool nights allow the vines to retain acidity, making the Russian River Valley a world class winegrowing region.
Production Notes
The 2019 vintage started off with copious amounts of rain saturating the soil in late winter, with even more rain lasting through spring. A hot June facilitated vine growth followed by a considerable heat spike in August, pushing the sugars up and allowing the berries to develop ripe flavors. With everything in balance for a beautiful harvest, we hand picked this fruit in the cool early morning hours of September 5th.
