Russian River Valley
2022 Davis Bynum Lindley's Knoll Pinot Noir

Winemaking Notes
Our Lindley’s Knoll Pinot Noir comes from a very small selection of our Jane’s Vineyard in the Russian River Valley. We employed different fermentation methods including the use of small concrete fermentors, which added black cherry pie aromas, and oak puncheons and macrobins to increase complexity and enhance mouthfeel. The final product is a Pinot Noir which reflects the terroir of the Russian River Valley and the very best of its characteristics.
Vinous fruit, clove, and dark chocolate aromas with a touch of pomegranate and forest floor lead to a rich mouthfeel with vinous, truffle, and toasty oak flavors with a pinch of pine needles. The finish is firm with youthful tannins built for aging.
Vineyard Notes
Davis Bynum Pinot Noirs showcase the unique terroir of distinct sites in the Russian River Valley. Our Lindley’s Knoll Pinot Noir comes from a block in our Jane’s Vineyard located in the Santa Rosa Plain area of this AVA. The vines here show moderate vigor in their growth habit, mainly due to the acidic, nutrient poor soil and good drainage. We planted on rootstock that has a shallower rooting angle to match the soil profile. Temperate weather is common at Jane’s Vineyard, allowing the fruit to ripen in the warm days, yet retain acidity in cool nighttime temperatures.
Production Notes
The 2022 vintage was very mild. Rain from the previous autumn was light, and the new year entered warm and dry with daytime highs up to 70°F in early spring. An unusual sprinkle of rain in early summer was no cause for concern, and the temperature turned predictably hot for a few days in June as usual, but
the season continued to be mild overall, with most summer days peaking around 85-90°F. Then as we were getting ready to pick, a record setting heatwave overcame our region, causing berry sugars to spike upward as we picked both Preston blocks in the unusually warm night hours of Sept 6.
